Rosie Martin, along with others in different areas of Risdon Prison, is giving a whole lot of her own energy, time and enthusiasm to helping people within the prison rebuild family and individual relationships as well as literacy and numeracy education.                  Like many individuals within our communities, she is a quiet achiever and her aims are altruistic.                                                                                                                                                   The aims of the people working within the prison are to help the prisoners learn how to develop the skills necessary to function in their homes and communities in a way that gives them a new outlook on life and more importantly, keeps them from returning to prison.                                                                                                                                                                 “From little things, BIG things grow” -Paul Kelly.                                                                   You can throw a seed in the ground but if you do not water, feed and weed it, it will not flourish. This is the principle that must be applied to those who find their way into prison. They are not lost causes and are “seeds” ready to grow if attended to. Seeds that are not looked after either die or grow in a way that they were not meant to. They do not produce fruit.                                                                                                                                 Apart from a few select cases and those who are unwilling to change, there is hope for anyone who breaks the law to get back on the right track. I did it!

Let’s hope that this matter matters to Tassie.     Steve.
